The database of items for sale was created from a company supplied spreadsheet. This is a manufacturer which does not use barcodes so the items are selected for sale from a touch screen menu much like that in a restaurant application. Custom reports were developed which detailed sales and quantities of stock available so that inventory levels could be maintained. The custom reports were in the form of text files which are automatically generated and sent to the company's ftp site. Installation included category 5 cabling to four (4) computer work stations, and cabling to three (3) telephone sets, plus installation of a Panasonic telephone system. Telephone system programming and training of the store staff was accomplished prior to the grand opening. The computer system is remotely managed using a VNC client. Point-of-Sale
Systems provides periodic system maintenance to insure 100% system uptime.

Here the owners were designers who had a "feel" for how they wanted the store and the Point-of-Sale system to look. They built a custom counter from pressure treated wood covered in plastic with compartments for the cash drawer, receipt printer and keyboard. Because the owners had other business investments they utilize Charles
Carroll Associates services to provide full charge bookkeeping services
in addition to accounting and tax services. All bills are paid by Charles
Carroll Associates and sent to the owner for signature. Charles Carroll
Associates obtains the POS information and bank statements with which
to produce monthly financial statements and other reports for management
to retain a good grasp of the financial condition of the business. Payroll
is professionally managed through Paycycle Solutions, using direct deposit
so once the owners approve the time sheets from the POS system the payments
are made by the FREE direct deposit service. Finally security is provided by the Remote View digital video system
and the company utilized the SuccessFour program from Charles Carroll
Associates, for monthly accounting, sales tax return preparation and annual
income tax planning and return preparation. |

This company is both a designer and manufacturer of clothing, as well as a retailer. We designed a custom application using MS Access that will create both item codes and UPC codes after the designs are sent to be manufactured. The item codes utilize human readable letters and numbers to denote the class of item (men's, woman's or unisex) type (suit, pants, shirt, etc.) style, color, size and season. Previously the codes were simply sequential numbers with no useful function. Now it is a simple matter to move out of season merchandise to sale racks and keep a more accurate inventory. A separate wholesale center is operated on the upper floor as a separate
entity, with a sales station using the sale database on a central server.

Challenge: This client was experiencing significant growth and starting to loose control of costs, and had difficulty in determining what was profit. Also, during peak times (lunch and early evening) significant lines of people were developing necessitating the need for a faster way to make transactions. A further complication; very, very limited space and the need to maintain a clean environment. |

The touch-screen is easy to use and speeds transactions, as does the use of high speed Internet credit card processing, eliminating the need for a second sales station. The small footprint of the CREST system (16" x 16") is no larger than the combined old cash register and credit card processing terminal. Because the CREST systems are self contained there are no wires and cables to become tangled and with only a power and Internet connection cleaning on and around the unit is fast and easy. The system was delivered with the database in place minus quantities
which were later inventoried. Training was accomplished in a single afternoon
and the system went live the next day. Using a wireless Internet connection
a laptop was used for back office functions and a full sized printer and
fax machine (HP 6310) was used for report printing. |

Senna Cosmetics: Multi-Store Skin Care Company - Locations in Southern California
|
|||||
|
Challenge: Multiple retail locations spread out over vast distances presented difficulties in control; standardization of procedures was needed and customer information needed to be shared between stores so that, for example, gift cards purchased in one store could be redeemed in another store. An easy-to-use system was required as the users were all licensed cosmetologists with little or no computer training. Also, transaction speed was critical as appointments all ended in 15 minute intervals creating a periodic bottleneck. |

The touch-screen is easy to use and speeds transactions, as does the use of high speed Internet credit card processing. Due to local access ordinances, requiring low counter heights, the placement of the cash drawers under the processor and touch-screen elevates the work height of the screen and keypad by 8" creating a better ergonomic environment. The CRE Enterprise software allows the headquarters office to receive daily updates on sales and make global price changes as well as share customer information. Custom reports were created to detail sales of various items which had different commission payments. The time punch function allowed better control of employee hours worked. Also, remote access digital video systems were installed significantly
reducing inventory shrinkage and allowing better management. |
